Thrift Shop Tid-bits by Dolores Chase – February 2022

Here we are in the middle of winter not much snow Thank goodness but some cold and windy days. We can deal with those because spring will be here before we know it.  In December our little thrift shop was voted number 1 on the whole Cape on Tic Toc which has brought us some younger customers. Some of these younger customers are coming from Centerville, Marstons Mills, and Orleans and other Cape Towns.

We could still use more hands in the thrift shop as John Chatham is no longer a volunteer in the shop. It’s a long way to come from Plymouth to work for us. The gas prices are not cheep today and in the winter roads could be icy.  Thank you to all those who do help in the shop as I can’t do it alone . I do need your help. I could use someone on Wednesday about 10 AM to help me fold clothes. Thank you in advance.  Stay warm , stay safe and take care of yourselves and each other.

Thrift Shop Tid-bits by Dolores Chase – October 2021

Another month has come and gone. It seems like we just start a month and I blink and it’s gone. It doesn’t seem possible that we only have 3 months until 2022.  If  I could,  I’d like to slow  time down a bit. I never seem to have enough time to do everything I’d like to do. But I guess I can’t do that.

As you all know, we had our End of Season Sale at the end of August. Sales were very good! We had ample help when we closed on that Saturday. There were eleven people to take everything that was left and bag for the Salvation Army. Then we put winter clothes out for Thursday.  All this took a little over one hour, so lots of hands made our work lighter. Thank you to all who came and helped!

Labor Day weekend brought the Art Sale at which time I was outside with pictures, mirrors and frames of all sizes and colors that I sold for $2 each. 89 pieces were sold. This was very successful, l so I feel it’s worth doing again.

The Thrift Shop can still use help when we are open, so, if you have 2 hours, we’d like to talk with you. Talk to myself or Wendy, and we’ll put you to work. Thank you in advance.

Well, here we are in the fall, and the trees will soon be full of color, but that also means cold weather will soon follow. Till next time, take care of yourselves and each other.

Thrift Shop Tid-bits by Dolores Chase – September 2021

Well, where has summer gone to! It doesn’t seem possible that we’re at the end of August. I would like to thank all my volunteers for the hard work they do. If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have a thrift shop. Most of our volunteers are non- Church members, and I do appreciate them. I also want to thank Wendy for the hard work she does trying to keep the schedule on track. That can’t be an easy job, because people have other things to do from time to time. It takes a lot of people to keep the shop going. We recycle books, cardboard, clothes, and we’re now going to save old blankets and towels for the animal shelter in Brewster. A lady named Cindy, whom Linda Todenhagen knows, will come, and pick them up. The thrift shop also helps anyone who may have lost all their personal belongings in a fire, or we’ll help you if your homeless and you need an outfit for a job interview.

We are having our half -price sale from August 19th to the 28th of this month and then  again when we open on September 2nd. We’ll have the winter clothes for sale. I’m also planning on having an Art sale outside (weather permitting) on September 2,3,4th to find new homes for all the pictures that have collected in the basement.

As some of you may know the thrift shop has planted a tree in memory of Thelma Bly up near the back parking lot. A placard has been ordered to state the same and should arrive at the end of this month. Then we’ll have it placed by the tree.

We are going back to the original entrance this coming week, because of some things that came to my attention last week. I have noticed some customers going out the book room door with clothes and not paying for them, so that door will be closed except for Monday morning when we accept donations. If you have some free time and would like to volunteer in the thrift shop, please see Wendy as some of our snowbirds will be heading south soon. Thank you in advance.

The thrift shop is helping the U.M Women to set up their craft fair for November 20th. and if you can help with that it would be very much appreciated. Thank you to all who help with the thrift shop and those who used to but have had to step aside because of this pandemic. It would be nice if things went back to normal, but what is normal! Maybe this is the new normal and we have to just take it one day at a time. Take care everyone and stay safe.

Praying for all of you. Let us all keep Carol Porter in our prayers as she’s lost her husband Bob. As some of you may know Carol and Bob used to work in the Thrift shop.

Thank you and until next month thank care of yourself and each other.   Dolores

Thrift Shop Tid-bits by Dolores Chase – August 2021

Twenty-two Thrift Shop Volunteers enjoyed a picnic luncheon as a “thank you” for their dedicated and much appreciated service to the Thrift Shop over the past year (with its pandemic ups and downs).  Thanks to the volunteers was expressed by Thrift Shop “chief” Dolores Chase and Pastor Dianne Carpenter.  Judy Thomas, organizer of the picnic luncheon, thanks her superb team for their contribution to the event:  Chief aides in the kitchen Leslie Albee, Wendy Storer and Barry Thomas and dining room aides Carolyn Dickinson and Nancy McIntyre.  Claudia Winne made a wonderful crock pot of beans and brought our most senior volunteer, Jackie Winne, to the picnic.

Until next time take care of yourselves and each other.
