“Two Deaths Announced”
Roger Gardner Morey, a relatively recent member of Harwich UMC, died on Wednesday, July 12th at about 6:00 pm at age 92. A service was led by the Rev. David Purdy on July 17th at the church followed by a committal service in Natick where Roger spent much of his adult life and was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
He was a navigator of bomber crew in World War II and worked in the food business most of his life including Hunt Wesson. Roger was instrumental in the Episcopal Church’s establishing the weekly Open Door Community Meal. He was twice named the Natick Man of the Year. To our congregation he was a gentle man who loved the music and had a close relationship with Rev. Ed Farrell-Starbuck. We wished we had him with us longer.
Lora “Dusty” Barley died in the early hours of the night of July 15th at Cape Cod Hospital. She served as church secretary for about twelve years but was much more to many of us. She was an attentive listener, conveyed her deep spirituality and was one of the most grateful people many of us will ever know. Despite her own many health issues over the years and the death of two daughters she maintained a positive outlook. When her recent illnesses required surgery, she said “no thank you.” And died a couple of days later.
Dusty was a long time member of the South Yarmouth United Methodist Church holding key jobs there as well as serving the New England Annual Conference. A memorial service was held at the South Yarmouth Church on August 27th at 4 pm.”
